1. WIREFRAME – Pinky's design is translated into a complex chickenwire construction.

2. CLAY MODEL – Pinky's wireframe is filled in.

3. TEXTURING – Pinky is textured, including sweat. "Bones" are then added so the model is fully articulated for animation.

IN THE WAY THAT SILENT MOVIES gave way to sound, how black and white films compare to colour, the move from traditional 2D animation to 3D animation is like an evolutionary leap to what can be termed "a superior new species". Traditional hand-crafted 2D animation looks like moving drawings because that's exactly what it is. 3D animation is like a quantum leap because it delivers amazingly lifelike animation – animation which not only includes height and width, just like 2D animation, but also what makes all the difference in the world: DEPTH.
